As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, agriculture will take center stage in nationwide celebrations. President Donald J. Trump announced the "Great American State Fair" initiative at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, aiming to bring America 250 programming to state fairs across the country. This series of events will culminate in a grand patriotic festival on the National Mall, featuring exhibits from all 50 states.

Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has called on all states to celebrate America's agricultural heritage by implementing America 250 programming at their state fairs. Additionally, she announced the "Great American Farmers Market," set to take place on the National Mall from August 3 to August 8 during National Farmers Market Week. This event invites farmers, ranchers, and producers from every state to showcase their products, highlighting the vital role of agriculture in the nation's history and future.

A recent study by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) highlights the significant economic impact of U.S. corn farming in 2024. According to the report, corn production generated approximately $123 billion in total economic output and contributed $50 billion to the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The industry also supported over 440,000 jobs and provided $29 billion in wages, underscoring its vital role in both rural and national economies. In 2024, U.S. farmers produced 14.9 billion bushels of corn for grain, valued at $64.7 billion, solidifying the country's position as the world's leading producer and exporter of corn.

The study further reveals that the economic benefits of corn farming extend across all 50 states, impacting 506 different industry sectors. Even states with minimal corn production, such as Hawaii and Alaska, experience economic gains from the industry. Illinois and Iowa lead in economic output from corn, generating $18.5 billion and $19.2 billion, respectively. These findings emphasize the extensive reach of corn farming's economic contributions across the nation.
